Here are a few facts to help you learn more about one of Virtually Visiting's most popular guides!
Patrick lives in Banff National Park, Canada's first (and therefore oldest), and most famous National Park.
A top tip from Patrick is that sunglasses are not just for the summer, but also the winter! The bright white snow in the winter means they are an essential accessory, and the National Park has well over 200 days a year of bright and clear skies!
Patrick has also lived in Southern Chile on Chiloe Island, and in Cusco, Peru! In Chiloe, the island typically gets over 300 days of rain a year! In Banff where Patrick is based now, 85% of the precipitation falls as snow, so he is certainly used to all kinds of weather!
Banff National Park spans over 6,000 square kilometers, so there is always somewhere new to explore. To live in Banff, you have to have a permit with a 'need to reside' clause! The town of Banff is part of the National Park itself, so the land under Banff still belongs to Canada, and technically King Charles the 3rd! Residents have to prove that they earn their living in Banff in order to justify being allowed to live there.
Banff and the Canadian Rockies are a haven for wildlife lovers, it is not unusual to see black bears, grizzly bears, coyotes, cougars, wolves, big horned sheep and huge numbers of elk, just on your daily commute!
